DIY Halloween Luminaries

Last year, I made DIY flameless fire pit for Halloween. Since then I had a set of six LED candles lying around. So, I thought I should come up with some sort of DIY to use them again this year. Finally, I ended up making DIY Halloween luminaries. These are easy to make and you don't have to worry about fire at all ;).

Materials used:

LED candles

Black Cardstock

Vellum

Double sided tape

Clear tape(Optional)

Pencil

Craft knife or electronic cutting machine

Scissors

Step 1: Cut a 2" X 5.25" rectangle out of a black cardstock. Draw the Halloween face as desired using a pencil in the middle of the rectangle.

Step 2: Cut the outline of the face using a craft knife. 

Step 3: Cut a small piece of vellum that is enough to cover the center(Area where the Halloween face it cut) and glue it using double sided tape. I tested using different color vellum to see if there is any difference but I did not find any. They all glowed in the same way! 

Step 4: Stick the double-sided tape at one end and wrap the template around the LED candle to make sure it fits and glue it to the other side. That's it! Your Luminaries are now ready to glow. I tried outlining the face with a white marker but at the end, I did not like the look so I omitted that step for the rest. 

If you have an electronic cutting machine these are so easy to make. Search for free/royalty free Halloween faces templates and download them. Trace them in your software and arrange them in the center of a rectangle. 

Adjust your cut settings for the cardstock. I used the dollar store cardstock which was surprisingly thicker compared to the normal cardstock . So, I used the cut setting as Blade 4, Speed 2 and Thickness 22 with Double cut checked in Silhouette software. 

Remaining steps are same as discussed above. 

My LED candles were about 1" in height so I made these templates in such a way it sits just a few inches(approx .25") below the rim of the LED candle. If you want the template to cover the whole candle just add that height to the template and also make sure you start cutting the faces above that height to avoid the shadow of the candle.
