How to make Shaker cards

It has been a tradition here on my blog that I share a card making tutorial every year during Christmas time. Following the same, this year I am sharing yet another interactive card. It is so easy and liked by people of all ages. I am sure whoever gets a shaker card, you will get to see the inner child in them  at least for a moment while they enjoy the card. Without much ado, let's get to the making.

DIY Christmas shaker card

Materials Used:
Card stock in different colors
Acetate sheet
Foam stickers
Double sided tape
Scissors
Craft knife
Pencil & Eraser
Ruler
Fillers for shaker window like sequins, rhinestones, mini beads, confetti, etc
Markers or pens to write Sentiments
Glue (optional)

Step 1: Decide the size of your card and cut the cardstock accordingly. The card size I used is A9. Cut the main card in a color of cardstock. In my case, I used green for the folded card(5.5" X 8.5") and a red cardstock unfolded(5.25" X 8.25") for the front of the card.

Step 2: Take the front red card and draw the shape of the shaker window in pencil. Use a ruler and pencil to do this. I drew a two-part window in the shape of a Christmas tree.

Step 3: Use a craft knife to cut the shape.

Step 4: Use double sided tape and glue the acetate sheet on the back of the front card to create the shaker window.

Step 5: Stick the foam stickers along the outer edge of the shaker window without any gap.

Step 6: To differentiate the top of the bottom trunk of the tree from the top, glue a piece of brown cardstock to the front of the main folded card. Now place the fillers for the shaker window on the main folded card, separately for each window. I used a mix of red, white and green fillers for the top of the tree and brown sequins for the bottom window.

Step 7: Now, add some extra foam stickers on all the corners and inner spaces on the wrong side of the front card. This is done to create an even look after sticking the front card to the main card. Once this is done, carefully glue the front red card to the main card. Use markers or pens to decorate the front side of the card to complete it. I used a white pen to write the "Merry Christmas" Sentiment and also for adding the stars. Then, used some G-S Hypocement glue and white rhinestones to decorate the tree part of the card. The card is now complete.😃

Hope you like this shaker card, there are a variety of ways you can get creative with this card. After step 5, you can pour the fillers inside the window and close the window using a green cardstock/brown cardstock and then glue that to the main card if you found this method difficult. But, if you want to eliminate the addition of one more cardstock , you can simply follow this method.

I created four more designs of shaker cards(includes birthday designs), which I am going to share it in my second Skillshare class. I will publish the class later this week. So, watch for an update in this post. I will also be sharing it on my social media once I publish my class. Until then, share with me what you think about this card in the comments below. As always I will be happy to hear from you.

Update: Here is my Second class on "How to make Shaker cards" . The class covers how to make three types of Shaker cards from basic, personalized to a no bulk version. Check it out.

    1. Thank you Nicole! Mini styrofoam balls that are normal used as fillers will be perfect I think. You can also try some glitter but be sure to use strong foam tape instead of stickers, becoz when I tried glitter, some of it kept falling off even in the smallest holes between the stickers. But you should not have problem if you use it shapes with corners instead of curves. Hope this helps.
