DIY gift box using cardstock - perfect for cookies & treats

If you have forgotten to buy boxes for your treats to gift to your family & friends, no worries. Here, I will show you how can use a 12 X 12 cardstock and can make an easy rectangle DIY gift box for cookies and other treats.

I had no idea I am going to make these until the last minute because we always used some Ziploc bags to giveaway our Diwali sweets & snacks to friends for the past two years. This time I wanted to do something different and eliminate the plastic bags as much as I can so, I thought I will go to a dollar store to get some boxes but I couldn't go. So, I thought I will make my own using the cardstock I have on hand and came up with this rectangle paper box to distribute my Diwali sweets. More than the sweets, everyone liked the boxes very much and started enquiring how it is made. So, I thought I will share how I made these DIY boxes using cardstock.

Materials Used:

  • 12 X 12 cardstock
  • Pencil & ruler
  • Scoring tool or something similar like the tip of a spoon
  • Scissors
  • Tape
Step 1: Measure and trim 1" from the 12" X 12" cardstock so you will have 11" X 12" to work with.

Step 2: Measure and mark 1.5" from the edge on all the sides. Use a ruler and a scoring tool or the backside of the spoon to Score and use your hands to fold the scored edges.

Step 3: Measure and mark 5 1/4" and 6 3/4" points on the 12" side. Score and fold.

Step 4: Cut at 1.5" mark from the edges on both the left and right and also make two cuts at the center 1.5" parts on either side.

Step 5: Fold the cut parts and use tape to secure the cuts/flaps to make the box. Use tape to secure on the outside of the box too. The box is now complete. You can alter the measurements to make different sizes based on your needs. You can cut a portion of the rectangle on the top and add clear plastic to make a window box.

Step 6: If you are making multiple boxes with different patterns, Mix and match the 1" strip you cut earlier to secure the box like a ribbon and place a sticker or any message in the middle to complete the packing.

I hope you enjoyed this simple DIY gift box using cardstock. Share your comments and do share it with your friends and family.
